Ohio Till Farmstead

Our Farm Story.

Welcome to our farm's website! My name is Tim Schacht. My family and I own and operate Ohio Till Farmstead. We are a first-generation small farm located just outside Marysville, Ohio.
Here's our story!

Ever since I was 3 years old I've wanted to be a farmer. When I was little I enjoyed watching our neighbor and other farmers using their cool farm equipment to grow crops and dreamed of one day doing it myself.  When I was in middle school I joined a local 4H club and was fortunate to make a few friends with some kids that had family farms of their own. Through those friendships, I was exposed to livestock, farm management, and the hard work involved in owning a farm. As I got older the reality set in and soon I realized becoming a farmer would be extremely difficult for me without having the funds to purchase land and the equipment required to make a successful start. In my mind I told myself farming would just have to wait to be my retirement hobby...

Fast forward to the present day. I married my beautiful wife, Michelle and we have two smart and handsome sons, Harrison (8) and Henry (3). I realized it wasn't something that could wait till retirement... I needed to start our farm. You only have so many days on this planet. There are only so many plantings and harvests you can do in a lifetime. I wanted to share the experience with my sons, working in the soil, harvesting our crop, and sharing that crop with our local community.

So that's what we did and somehow I convinced my wife it was a good idea. In September of 2019, we bought an old farmhouse that was built in 1869 that came with a couple of barns and as much land as we could afford. I promised Michelle I would turn that old house into the home of her dreams so that I could pursue this dream. Both are a work in progress... she is a very great wife! I can't say that enough!
Our farm is very small right now compared to others around us. I hope to grow our available land in the future but for the time being small is good, it allows me to figure out what works and what doesn't. I’m very interested in regenerative farming practices. We already implement many regenerative tools such as cover crops, minimal tillage, and crop rotations. It is important we improve our soil's health and leave the environment healthier for the next generation.

We believe in local, in community, and in hard work! We grow, harvest, process, and package our products right here on our farm. We aspire to keep as much of our farming operation as local as possible. We believe food at the local level is crucial for a sustainable and secure food supply chain.
So that's our story so far. Please follow us on Instagram and Facebook for day-to-day happenings on the farm!
