Mission
Vermont Farmstead Cheese Company (VFCC) gently cares for our land and the lives of our animals to make fresh, quality, and artisan cheese available to all. Through a marriage of authentic cheesemaking practices and innovative and playful partnerships within our community, we are creating a new generation of award winning artisanal cheeses.
History
Vermont Farmstead Cheese Company began as a community effort to preserve a picturesque 18-acre dairy farm in South Woodstock, Vt in 2009. Passionate residents raised money to purchase the land, buildings and equipment in hopes that it would remain a dairy farm. With the generous contributions and tireless efforts of an entire community, our dream was realized and Vermont Farmstead became the first community-owned artisan cheese and dairy facility in the state.
In June 2011, we produced our first cheese, and five months later, after refining our product, we brought it to the public. In October 2012, VFCC introduced a new cheese production facility approximately 20 miles from the farm at the Artisans Park in Windsor, Vt. In addition to our facility, Artisans Park is home to 8 unique attractions including a Harpoon brewery, Silo distillery, a sculpture garden, a river outfitter, and Simon Pearce glassblowing factory and is well worth a visit.
Castleton Crackers
In 2013, VFCC acquired Whitney’s Castleton Crackers, whose artisanal crackers are made from pure, all-natural ingredients and are the perfect companion to our delicious cheeses. After developing a cracker that incorporates our cheese, Whitney’s Castleton Crackers has become a true combination of the best of both brands. Together we are the first artisanal cheese and cracker company in Vermont.
Our Market (Now Closed)
In 2015, VFCC took over a retail outlet at the production facility at Artisans Park. Staying true to our mission of supporting local businesses, we showcased exemplary products created by our local Vermont farms, food and beverage makers, and other artisans. We also provided catered cheese and charcuterie platters, served up the best grilled cheese sandwiches in Vermont, and fired up the pizza oven in the garden during summer months.
Awards
VFCC cheeses have received numerous awards over the years. Most recently, a number of our cheeses have won awards from The New York International Cheese Competition! And we were named Vermont Cheddar Creamery of the Year!
