Bunker Hill Cheese
Bunker Hill Cheese’s history runs through Switzerland and the Dauwalder family. John, also known as Hans, trained as a master cheesemaker in Switzerland and came to the United States in the 1920s, where he worked at the Bunker Hill Cheese Co-op.
His brother Crist purchased Bunker Hill Cheese in 1935, and later generations of the family continued the business. Ownership passed to a new team in 2024, adding another chapter to a company whose cheese-making history stretches across generations.
When choosing a cheese, think about where you want to use it. Something for a sandwich and something to set out with crackers don’t have to be the same choice. Pick for the meal in front of you rather than saving every good piece for a cheese board.
