Wapsie Valley Heirloom Corn is thought to have originated in Meso America more than 6000 years ago. This beautiful heirloom corn has roots in Iowa in the mid 1800's.

Polenta, the national staple of Italy, is a great way to enjoy the one-of-a-kind flavor of Ohio-grown Organic Wapsie Valley corn. When corn reached Italy in the 1600s, from “The New World”, it quickly became the food all peasants subsisted on for centuries (see the film, The House of Wooden Clogs!). Before that, polenta, or pulmentum, was made by Roman soldiers from barley, spelt, and millet.

Shagbark freshly grind their Certified Organic Heirloom Polenta on a stone mill to retain its superior flavor and nutrition. Corn is also a good source of vitamin C and manganese. They never use GMO varieties, as is required to be Certified Organic.
